Our Story
Revere the Residence was founded by mother and daughter duo, Kate and Piper Revere, with the vision of creating something special and meaningful for Piper—a space where she could feel safe, secure, and inspired to express her creativity. Piper, an autistic and learning-disabled teenager, has always had a deep passion for creativity, but her independence is limited due to her disabilities. Kate, knowing that less than 5% of people with learning disabilities in the UK are employed, wanted to ensure that Piper would have a place to continue thriving after leaving education—a space where she could be creative, socially engaged, and most importantly, safe.
Piper’s journey has not been easy. Kate contracted a virus during pregnancy called CMV, which caused several life-changing disabilities for Piper. Alongside her profound deafness, Piper also has autism, learning disabilities, and “wobbly balance,” which often requires the use of walking aids or her trusty wheelchair, Patricia. Despite facing these challenges, Kate and Piper have developed an unbreakable bond, strengthened by their shared experiences, humour, and love for each other. Their shared interests in interiors and homeware grew over years spent in and out of hospitals, with Piper initially captivated by dolls houses and Playmobil setups. This love for creativity eventually blossomed into a desire to share their artistic journey with the world.
In 2020, Kate launched Revere the Residence, a homeware and lifestyle shop in the heart of their Hackney community. Although the timing coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kate knew the shop would provide something invaluable to the community—especially for young adults with learning disabilities, who often face limited opportunities. What began as a space selling local, creative products from Hackney and small businesses across the country soon transformed into a thriving creative hub. It was here that Piper and her fellow volunteers, many of whom also had learning disabilities, began to create their own designs, bringing their unique perspectives to life through art. These designs were not only beautiful and humorous but also honest and joyful—capturing the essence of their experiences and aspirations.
One of the biggest successes was Notes by Piper, a collection of Piper’s handwritten messages, which quickly became the shop’s most popular items. These notes, often written to her imaginary boyfriends or family, are a window into Piper’s emotional world. Her notes express love, humor, and magical connections, each one resonating deeply with those who connect with her unique voice. Her distinct font, a playful mix of upper and lowercase letters, scattered with large dots, became a signature style. What started as simple messages of love and reflection was transformed into art that people could relate to, all while sharing Piper’s raw honesty and sense of humor.
Piper’s collaboration with her mother, Kate, has brought fresh energy to the designs, introducing vibrant colour into some of her prints, adding warmth and depth to her already captivating work. Since the shop's opening, Piper's art has expanded beyond the physical space. She’s gone on to design global Christmas window displays in collaboration with Vivienne Westwood, contributed designs to the A/W 24/25 collection, collaborated with Albaray on t-shirt designs, and participated in campaigns for the RELAY THE WORLD charity race. Her work has been showcased in major exhibitions and collections, including the Wellcome Collection, Holly & Co, Hackney Council, and See You in Stokey.
Despite the success of the shop, Revere the Residence faced the harsh realities of running a small independent business on the high street. In 2025, the shop was sadly closed, leaving a tough blow for Piper and the team of young adults who had been part of the shop’s journey. However, this decision has allowed Piper to focus on her health, giving her the time she needs to recover and reflect. The closure, though challenging, was seen as a step towards something even bigger.
Now, Kate and Piper continue their work online, building their brand through the Notes by Piper collection—art, cards, prints, and ceramics. Kate’s handmade ceramics are influenced by Piper’s unique style, with each piece featuring wobbly edges, representing Piper’s description of her balance, and solid balls around the notes, symbolizing the dots in Piper’s distinctive font. New colourways and limited edition screen prints are also in the works, and rumors of a book are stirring. They’re also continuing their collaborations with charities and fashion industry clients, many of whom have supported the neurodiverse community from the start.
Through it all, Kate and Piper are dedicated to showcasing the deep bond they share, empowering Piper’s neurodiverse art, and ensuring that her talent is recognised as equal to that of her peers. Their journey is about more than just business; it’s about love, family, resilience, and the joy of sharing their home and creativity with the world. At Revere the Residence, they invite you to join them in celebrating their story, their art, and the beauty of neurodiversity.
